Silent Wings Museum in Lubbock

Silent Wings Museum

Museum is dedicated to the history of the U.S. Military Glider Program and its role in World War II. Exhibits feature one of the few fully restored World War II gliders in existence and includes three exhibit galleries, a multimedia theater, a C-47 airplane, research library, museum store, training and combat experiences plus restored aircraft. Since its grand opening in 2002, the Rosenberg Railroad Museum has amassed a collection of artifacts, maps, photographs, semaphores, wigwag and memorabilia detailing the history of the Great Rails in and around Rosenberg and Fort Bend County and their importance to the city's history. Special exhibits include a HO-gauge working model train, and an 1879 business railcar recalling the golden days of train travel. The museum's newest addition, Tower 17, was the last traditional manned railroad-interlocking tower in Texas. Tower 17 closed in February 2004 and was moved a half-mile to the museum grounds. The museum hosts its annual Railroad Festival the first Saturday in March. A member of the Texas Rail Tourism Alliance. Open Tue.-Sat. 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Sun. 1–5 p.m. Special tours by appointment.
