Region: Prairies and Lakes
Back in the 1840s, in an area inhabited by Comanche and Caddo Indian tribes, the beginnings of a community, eventually called Breckinridge, was formed. After the Civil War, the railroad bypassed Breckinridge and an area just to the northwest became the new center of activity. It became known as Richardson, named for the railroad contractor who built the line from Dallas to Denison. Located immediately to the north of Dallas, the town gradually became a thriving community. Today, besides being well-known as the Telecom Corridor®, for its large concentration of technology and telecommunications firms, Richardson hosts four award-winning music/art festivals each year and is home to a state-of-the-art performing arts facility that plays host to some of the region's most popular attractions.
The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Light Rail stops at four stations in Richardson, giving visitors easy access to other metroplex attractions, such as the Sixth Floor Museum, Downtown Dallas, West End Market Place, the Dallas Zoo and more, in a matter of minutes and for a nominal fee.
