Region: Piney Woods

Seat of Newton County, the eastern-most county of Texas. With the motto "Clean Air, Fresh Water and Friendly People," the city is filled with down-home charm. There are several Texas Historical Markers and Medallions placed throughout the county.

Newton County is home to four birding sites on the Big Thicket Loop of the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. There are more than 220 species of birds that reside or migrate in the county.
